On 21 June, 19 meters below the ground on Castle Peak Road - Kwu Tung session gathered senior officials from Dragages Hong Kong, KCRC, and Mr. Christian Gazaignes, CEO of Bouygues TP, as they toasted to the first drive-through of the Down Track TBM West Approach Tunnel from Kwu Tung to Chau Tau.

The last break-through from Sheung Shui East Approach to Kwu Tung was in February 2004. Since March, TBM Mu Lan had worked her way from Kwu Tung and reached Chau Tau West Approach this month. The TBM tunnel session from East Approach to West Approach is 3192m.

The machine and the cutterhead will be dismounted, transported back to Sheung Shui to start digging the Upper Track tunnel starting September.
