Dragages et Travaux Publics (HK) Ltd has recently completed the handover of the Lai King Disciplined Serviced Quarters on Lai Chi Ling Road to the HK SAR Government. The development consists of 610 residential units in three 38-storey towers, built on a landscaped podium with two levels of car parking as well as recreational facilities for residents.
The contract was awarded to Dragages Hong Kong in November 1999, and construction was completed on schedule in January this year, after 26 months work. The design and build nature of the project has enabled Dragages to introduce innovative construction techniques such as precasts façade panels, system formwork, precasts stairs, and spray plastering. Through such techniques, a consistent four-day cycle of tower construction was achieved and a superior level of quality was maintained throughout the project.
A safety assessment was carried out early in the design stage allowing risk prevention measures to be incorporated into the method and construction sequence from the beginning. During construction, numerous site environment improvement measures were also successfully implemented. The Architectural Services Department presented Dragages with a Green Contractor Award (2001) in recognition of the success of these efforts.
Dragages Hong Kong is part of the French Bouygues Construction company, and is the head office of its activities in Asia. Dragages has been active in building and civil works in Asia since 1902 and has just celebrated its centenary. Recent works in Hong Kong include the New Medical Complex for the University of Hong Kong, Les Saisons residential development for Swire Properties, Hang Hau Station and tunnels for the MTR Corporation, two design-and-build tunnel projects for West Rail of the KCR Corporation. Dragages is also currently working on the West Kowloon Disciplined Services Quarters, a similar design and build project for Architectural Services Department.
